Course Overview
Python Basics
Learn Python 3 by editing working examples and then solving a different, focused problem yourself. A community workshop provides practical tasks: calculate supply costs, assign seats, organize registrations, and save a note. Each section pairs short guided demos with separate exercises, gives you feedback on your code, and ends with a quiz. You can work in the browser without installing Python.
Course path
- First Steps with Python — print, variables, types, and the editor.
- Values, Operators, and Input — calculate, format text, convert input values.
- Decisions and Loops — comparisons, conditions,
while, for, break, andcontinue. - Functions and Scope — name reusable actions, pass arguments, return values, and understand local variables.
- Strings and Text Processing — indexing, slicing, and methods.
- Lists and Tuples — ordered data, changes, iteration, and fixed records.
- Dictionaries and Sets — keyed records and unique items.
- Errors and Files — recover from bad data and read/write browser files.
- Modules and Packages — import reusable Python code.
- More Function Patterns — optional recursion and functional tools.
- Putting It Together — build a small program and learn the vocabulary of classes and objects without writing object-oriented code.
Open main.py in a coding lesson, make the requested edit, press Run to see the output, and press Submit to check your work. Demo lessons ask for tiny changes; the following exercise uses different data so you can apply the idea yourself. The Python editor runs through Pyodide. File exercises use its temporary in-memory filesystem, not files on your computer; command-line input() is explained with sample values rather than an interactive prompt.
